Frankfurt / Straubing, April 2008 Waxy’s Irish Pub opened its doors for the first time on December 13th, 2007, in a prime central location right behind the Frankfurt stock exchange. More opulent by far than the word ‘pub’ might suggest, Waxy’s is notable for its stylish ambience, fine cuisine, and ultra-modern entertainment equipment. For this reason, enormous importance was attached to the sound system to be installed there. The task of planning was entrusted to YourEvent, a company directed by the events equipment consultant Mario Klein; Ludwig Becker of The Guitar Place Aschaffenburg handled the installation. The unusual décor of the venue, which consists of a restaurant and a club, suggests the interior of an Irish church – complete with a mock organ, statues of angels, choir stalls, and a mock pulpit. For this reason, Mario Klein opted for a decentralized sound reinforcement concept, in accordance with the wishes of the Doyle family, who now run a total of seven Irish Pubs throughout Europe. The highest possible quality of reproduction and maximum flexibility were, according to Klein, the central objectives of the sound reinforcement concept.
After careful testing, Klein opted for a mixture of different VariLine loudspeakers (VL62, VL262 and VL122) from DYNACORD, plus FX20 subwoofers. “With these systems, we were able to achieve homogeneous sound throughout the entire location,” says Klein, adding that, at a level of just 95 dBA, “a real party atmosphere” fills the club. The Waxy’s installation demonstrated once again the versatility of VariLine speakers, since, in addition to disco duties, the sound reinforcement system caters marvellously to the needs of events like Karaoke shows and live concerts.
At the heart of the installation is the N8000 audio matrix from Electro-Voice, which manages 16 inputs and outputs via touch screen, including, for example, the club’s DJ desk with its VJ options, its computer system (upon which several gigabytes of MP3 titles are stored), its various SAT receivers, and the DYNACORD CMS mixer installed in the stage area for independent control by the musicians themselves. The touch screen can also be used to select from any number of presets. Thanks to its DSL connection, the system can even be maintained remotely from a help desk. The presets manage the sound settings and SPL levels in all eight zones of the venue, which include the bathroom and outdoor areas; this is made possible by the freely configurable IRISNet™ software platform.
To power the VariLine loudspeakers, ten DYNACORD CL1600 and CL2000 power amplifiers were chosen – with good reason, since, as Mario Klein explains, “they are reliably protected against over-heating, overload, short-circuits, high frequencies, and direct current at the output, and therefore are excellently adapted to the requirements of extended use in an events location such as this.”
