Frankfurt’s EVI Audio-equipped Commerzbank Arena is ready for the World Cup 2006

June 3 rd saw the official handover of the newly furbished Commerzbank Arena, Frankfurt, to the committee organizing the 2006 FIFA World Cup. The project, which cost 126 million euros and lasted a full three years, included the installation of state-of-the-art pro sound, public address and alarm systems from EVI Audio

On the 3 rd June, the mayor of Frankfurt am Main, Oberbürgermeisterin Petra Roth, presented the city’s new soccer stadium, the Commerzbank Arena, to Horst R Schmidt, Senior Vice-President of the Organising Committee for the upcoming FIFA World Cup,.

Work began on the ultra-modern 52,000-seater stadium, which has a retractable roof and is built on the site formerly occupied by the Waldstadion, in June 2002 and was completed in May 2005. The final cost came to 126 million euro with a further 174 million devoted to the stadium periphery.

The new home of Eintracht Frankfurt, which has just won promotion to the 1 st Bundesliga, satisfies in every respect the demands of a modern stadium — above all in terms of audio quality. That’s because the planners opted for an integrated sound reinforcement, public address and alarm system from EVI Audio.

The advantage of a one-source solution such as this is that all the components are perfectly matched and compatibility problems avoided, which when combined with the legendary reliability and user-friendliness of EVI Audio sound systems adds up to an unanswerable case. The pro sound and public address systems, for example, are perfectly integrated, making it possible to route important announcements or alarm messages through either the pro sound system or the public address system in the stadium interior or both. Coverage for the grandstands and playing area is provided by EV NetMax N8000 controllers, EV remote amps and EV FRX+PI enclosures.

The pro sound system is configured, controlled and monitored using Electro-Voice’s IRIS software, which makes it possible to conduct a complete system check that takes in all the loudspeaker components installed in the arena and is based on impedance measurements performed by the remote amplifiers.

The stadium’s public address and alarm system, like that of the new metro station, is a DYNACORD ProMatrix. An additional system covers the access areas, turnstiles, ticket office and bus station.

EVI Audio’s installation partner for the massive project was Landau Electronic of Mörfelden-Walldorf.

The systems installed in the new Commerzbank Arena include the following:

  • Pro sound systems
  • 24 x EV P3000 RL
  • 16 x EV P900 RL
  • 4 x EV P1200 RL
  • 84 x EV FRX+PI series enclosures
  • 5 x EV N8000 network controllers

Public address systems

  • 6 x DPM 4000
  • 74 x DPA 4140
  • 31 x DPA 4120
  • 6 x DPA 4245
  • 5 x N8000
  • 1 x DTI 2000 telephone interface
